Feature lists won't help you
Both platforms handle omnichannel support, automated triage, knowledge bases, SLAs, customer satisfaction surveys, and AI-assisted responses. A feature-by-feature comparison therefore rarely provides a clear answer.
In practice, three things determine the outcome: what it costs at the level you actually need, how much work is required between purchase and launch, and whether you intend to use more than just the support module.
Six concrete advantages of Freshdesk
1. More is included at lower price points. Freshdesk generally includes more in its lower-tier plans. This is the most common concrete reason organizations switch, and it becomes most apparent when you compare quotes at the appropriate level.
2. Faster time to launch. A support team can be up and running within a couple of weeks without extensive configuration work. The time to launch is a cost in itself, and it is most noticeable for teams without a dedicated administrator.
3. Easier for agents. The interface requires minimal training, which is a significant advantage when onboarding temporary staff, seasonal workers, or new hires during peak periods.
4. Freshservice in the same family. If you also need to manage internal IT, you get single sign-on and shared contact data instead of having to integrate two separate environments.
5. Multiple brands and languages in a single installation. Separate portals, dedicated reply addresses, and multiple languages in parallel – practical for Nordic companies with customers in several countries.
6. Nordic implementation partner. We set up channels, automations, SLAs, and a knowledge base, and we stay on to support you afterward. Support is available in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and English.
The price is in the tiers, not the starting figure
Both price per agent across several tiers. The difference lies in where the features are placed.
Check specifically which tier includes automations, SLA management, multi-brand support, custom roles, and the reporting you need. It is common for quotes to be compared at the wrong tier, with the discrepancy only discovered when it comes time to activate a feature.
Time to deployment
Zendesk is built for extensive customization. This is a strength for those who have someone to own the platform, but a hurdle for those who do not.
The question to ask yourselves: who among us will build and maintain this? If the answer has no name, that should carry significant weight.
Just support, or more?
If you only need customer support, it matters less which suite the platform belongs to.
If you also need to manage internal IT, the Freshworks family has a clear advantage: Freshdesk for customers, Freshservice for colleagues—same vendor, same partner.
This is also where the most common mistake is made—using a customer support system for internal IT or vice versa. See customer service and customer support.
When Zendesk is the right choice
When you have already built custom applications on the Zendesk platform, have the development resources to maintain them, and a support organization large enough to justify that management. In that case, the value lies in what you have built, and that does not transfer if you switch.
What a switch entails
Tickets, contacts, and knowledge base articles can be migrated. We will work together to determine how far back in time it makes sense to go—the answer is almost always a shorter period than you might think.
We distribute Freshdesk and we assist with setup, migration, and training in Swedish. We are not neutral, but we will tell you if we think you should stay where you are.
