A PSA system (Professional Services Automation) manages customers, contracts, tickets, time, and billing in one unified context.
The difference compared to a standard ticketing system is that a PSA knows the value of every hour. A ticket carries customer, contract, pricing, and time data all the way to the invoice line – which is the prerequisite for tracking profitability per customer.
RMM – monitoring and operations
An RMM system (Remote Monitoring and Management) monitors customer devices, patches them, and enables remote remediation.
This is where proactive work happens. A well-configured RMM detects and resolves issues before the customer even calls – which is the business model in practice.
Documentation
Documentation systems consolidate customer environments, procedures, and dependencies in one structured and searchable location.
The key is not just writing the documentation, but keeping it up to date. Modern tools automatically sync core data from PSA and RMM systems so that it never becomes obsolete.
Automation
Automation platforms connect your systems and execute workflows between them.
User onboarding and offboarding is usually the first step: accounts, licenses, permissions, documentation, and termination handled in a single workflow instead of a manual checklist.
Security and backup
The security layer is now part of the delivery, not an optional extra.
Customer demands are increasing faster than their budgets, and an MSP that cannot explain how customer data is protected will lose bids. Endpoint protection, identity management, monitoring, and backup with tested recovery.
The service desk is the face of your business
